Superpower Seaweed

Superpower Seaweeds is an immersive, interactive dance and sensory performance created for children aged 1–5 years and their caretakers. Through movement, music, touch, taste, and play, this enchanting experience invites our youngest audiences to dive beneath the waves and discover the magical world of seaweeds — extraordinary organisms that shimmer, stretch, and sustain life across our oceans.

Each performer embodies a unique type of seaweed, expressing through dance the incredible diversity and hidden powers of these underwater plants. Some seaweeds change colour and shape, some crystallise or shine, while others are slimy inside and smooth outside. They can clean the air, nourish animals and humans, and even help restore balance to our changing climate.

The performance blends live dance, original music composed by Andy Trewren, and multi-sensory invitations for young audiences to explore and play. Children and their caregivers are encouraged to move with the performers, touch and feel the costumes, and experience seaweed-inspired textures and materials. Interactive stations feature seaweed-tasting, playdough sculpting, and tactile exploration, allowing everyone to connect with the ocean’s wonders through their senses.

Visually inspired by the beautiful forms, colours, and movements of real seaweeds, the costumes and set design are crafted to be highly sensory and engaging, inviting curiosity, creativity, and wonder.

At its heart, Superpower Seaweeds celebrates the strength and resilience of nature, reminding us that even the smallest organisms can have a huge impact on our world. Together, children and adults are invited to imagine hopeful, sustainable futures where nature and humans grow and thrive side by side.
